Weight Loss Tips to Help You Avoid Home Health Care

Weight loss tips are a dime a dozen these days. Everyone claims that their pill, their diet, their special cream will do the job and do it quickly. My suggestions go back 100's of years to the basics. Nothing to buy, nothing to fret over and simply put, returning to the basics of life the way it was designed to be is the best way to live anyway!

Sixteen years of Home Health Care Physical Therapy have shown me so many diseases and needless suffering. Simple remedies and weight loss tips could have kept these patients free from many of their ailments that come along with obesity or being overweight.

I believe we would all agree to some extent that behind every weight issue, be it overweight or underweight, comes emotional baggage. And with a heart that is not at rest or peace is a sleepless night. Night after night after night, America tosses and turns and drugs themselves to sleep hoping for relief and obsessing over weight loss.

The most recent research regarding lack of sleep has also suggested that this deprivation is a significant lender to weight gain and an obstacle to weight loss. Although multifactorial, weight loss can be achieved simply by simplifying one's life. Simple weight loss tip? Maybe but lets consider some interesting thoughts.

Rest is one of the most basic healers known! We rest to heal. We rest when are tired. We rest to escape. And now, we rest to lose weight! Inadequate rest when we are well leads to sickness.

Relax at the Beach

What is rest?
  • not always sleep
  • a change of pace
  • relaxing and breathing deeply
  • a change of attitude
  • stopping the "go go" mindset
  • sitting still, doing nothing
  • pacing out your to-do list
  • morning and evening time with God
  • time with your family
  • the silence between each heartbeat
  • a still stomach between meals

Some of the thoughts listed above may be new to you. Ponder them and practice some and you will find that as you slow down, rest may come easier for you at night.

Adequate rest can help you shed pounds. Years of abuse, mental strain and unrest and broken hearts for many of us have stolen our restful slumber and piled on the weight. These weight loss tips are amazing, free and they work. Why? It's they way life was made to work...simply with plenty of outside fresh air, sunshine and exercise.
Western Civilization and the backgrounds we grew up in emphasize that our worth and value are often places on how much you have and have accomplished. Society also bombards us to lose weight, overloading us with tips, in order to fit in and be accepted.

Slow Down!

Your best chances of restful sleep and therefore weight loss are on an empty stomach. Those who eat nothing at least 8.5 hours before going to bed at night will experience the best rest and the best long term weight loss. (Medical conditions may prevent you from practicing this... consult your doctor.)

Sleeping outside is unheard of these days unless you are camping! But sleeping outside can be restful than sleeping indoors in the summertime! Yes, you guessed it... better sleep, better chances of weight loss!

Consider these tips for rest and weight loss

  • It's been said that one hour of sleep before midnight is worth two after midnight.
  • Fifteen minutes of rest midday is worth 45 minutes or more at night.
  • If the above is not possible, take an hour of rest midday when you retire. Stay active the rest of the day...this will help with weight loss and increased lifespan.
  • Rest and work, work and rest but slacking on either one will cause the other to be less enjoyed.
  • Many retirees die within 3 years of retiring. Start now to help and serve others so that your purpose in life is not lost. This will help you to rest well and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Enough rest is needed to keep the alkalinity of the blood in check as most of the elimination of waste occurs when we are sleeping.
  • Many who lose their jobs put on weight over the stress that then causes sleepless nights. This cycle creates a challenge to weight loss.
  • We were designed to need one day a week to rest. This gives us time to spend with family and God.

Rest and Weight Loss


REM Sleep

You may be saying that you get sleep at night with the aid of your sleeping pills. However, most prescription sleeping medications alter the sleep cycle and suppress the all important REM sleep. You may also wonder why your weight loss is not going so well. Keep reading.

REM or Rapid Eye Movement sleep is the deepest cycle of sleep lasting about 10 minutes. The body goes through stages of sleep to get to REM and then cycles back through these stages. REM sleep occurs more in the morning hours than earlier in the night. This is why going to be at very late (or early a.m.) hours can also deprive you of REM sleep. Before your body can 'get to' those deep cycles of sleep, it's time to get up again.

People who are lacking REM sleep:

  • are irritable and tired
  • become depressed
  • become aggressive
  • become angry
  • become restless
  • tend to put on more weight
  • have difficulty losing weight

Simply stated, sleeping pills steal your REM sleep. You begin to feel so bad that you take more and more, convinced that you need these pills more than ever! The cycle gets worse and worse.

It's the best weight loss tip around! And the most relaxing! Whoever thought that you could sleep a few pounds away!?

Get your sleep the natural way. You will be rewarded over time and your weight loss efforts will begin to pay off. Remember that weight loss is multifactorial. Keep exercising and watching your diet as well.
