Special Home Health Physical Therapy License

by Alnisha
(Pleasanton, CA)

Alnisha's Question:

If I already have a Physical Therapy business license with the city that I would like to start a home health care agency in, do I still need a special home health Physical Therapy license in the state of California?

Marcia's Answer:

Your physical therapy license allows you to treat patients providing you are in good standing with your license and it is current and active in your state.

Your business license is separate from your professional license and allows you to run your business within the confinements of rules and regs for your city.

You may want to consult with an attorney regarding what you are wanting to accomplish.

You may, however, find it beneficial to get some home health physical therapy experience by working PRN with an agency. This will give you more insight into whether you really want to start your own home health PT business or not.
