Is home health for PTAs?

I am a student PTA in California. I have always been curious about home health PT, so I decided to do one of my clinicals in this field.

Just curious, if this is a good field for PTAs. Any ideas?

What would be your suggestions for a fresh PTA graduate?

Is Home Care for PTA's?

Hi Jyomo!

I've worked with many PTA's in the home health setting. Depending on your personality and your ability to be innovative and structure your day, it could be a great fit - or not. Since you are doing a clinical in this area, you will get a better feel for what it is about.

I've done mostly home health care for 16 years. The flexibility is great! But the isolation gets to me. It's just me and my car and my patients all day long. So, if you have more of social bug in you, you may want to consider another niche.

The pay can be great if you find a company willing to pay you per hour or salary. Most pay per visit and you're up a creek if half your patients cancel on day.

I started out by working in sports med and taking one home care patient on the side. Then two, then three... then I made the switch.
